WAYNE PHILIP SHOEMAKER
December 31, 1935 – January 27, 2013
Wayne Philip Shoemaker, loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, as well as great friend, neighbor and mentor to many, passed away on January 27, 2013 after complications from a fall. He was 77 years old.
A lifelong Washingtonian, son of Warren and Madaline Shoemaker, brother to Katherine Gail Hardy and the late Warren W. Shoemaker, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; children from his first marriage Kevin Shoemaker (Beth); Katherine Shoemaker; Karen Simundson (Ken); Keith Shoemaker (Jodie); grandchildren Emily, Sarah Ferreira (Diego), Lillian, Ryan, Shelby and Andrew; stepson Theodore A. Hall III (Karin) and grandchildren Madison and Tucker.
Wayne graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School (1953) and attended Virginia Tech and West Virginia University. He was a member of the Army 101 Airborne Military Police. From 1965 to 1978, Wayne was a member of the Bethesda Kiwanis Club serving as Key Club Administrator and Lieutenant Governor-Capital District. He started Wayne Drywall Company, Inc. in 1967 and worked there until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
A memorial service and interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Suburban Hospital or the American Parkinson Association.
