On Tuesday, January 4, 2011 of Rockville, Maryland. Beloved husband of Rachel M. Rankin; father of Roxanne (Rodney) Lineberry of Charlotte, NC and Thomas M. Rankin, Jr. of Ponte Vedra, FL.; grandfather of Sydney Rankin Lineberry of Charlotte, NC.
Col. Rankin received his education at Davidson College and the University of North Carolina earning a law degree. He was in the Army for 20 years and practiced law for 9 years, in 1977 he was assigned as the JAG at Walter Reed Army Hospital. He was also author of three civil war books and was honored for his work on the Virginia Regimental Series in 2006 in Richmond, VA. He was an elder and sunday school teacher at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Rotary Club Member, a founding member of the Montgomery County Civil War Roundtable and a Scottish Rite Mason.
