On Monday, February 17, 2014, Rosalie L. Iadarola, age 93, of Washington, DC. Beloved wife of Joseph Iadarola for 34 years until his death in 1978. Dear mother of Terry Long, Michael, Paul and Robert Iadarola and Mary Arnhold. Loving grandmother of Jessica and Joey Iadarola, Kristen and Katie Long, Nico and Jonathan Iadarola, and Michele and Christopher Arnhold. She was also the delighted great-grandmother of Samantha Iadarola. She is also survived by her nieces Diane Pisano, Lynn Pisano-Pedigo and Terry Goolsby. Mrs. Iadarola was preceded in death by her brothers Anthony Pisano and Ernest Pisano, Jr. Rosalie was born January 18, 1921 in New York City, the daughter of Ernest and Theresa Pisano. Rosalie married and moved to the Washington, DC area in the 1940s. As a mother of five, she was a busy home maker and also found time for many accomplishments outside the home. She was a tireless advocate for developmentally disabled children and adults, working with a team of volunteers to successfully change education policies and services for this population in the District of Columbia and nationally. At age 55 she started work on a long-delayed college degree and graduated 10 years later with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Catholic University's Speech and Drama Department. In her younger years she pursued her interest in acting as part of community theater groups. Her college experience made her a popular performer at the Hartke Theater and led to acting in a professional capacity in radio and film. She instilled a love of performing arts and other artistic pursuits in all her children and grandchildren. Rosalie shared her other abundant interests and talents, especially her devotion to great Italian home cooking and her skill as a watercolor artist. She was also fond of nature and the outdoors, and even in her 90s, took great pleasure in a day at the beach and a long swim in the ocean. She spent her later years pursuing these passions, nurturing her family, and helping all those she knew to share in her love of life.
