On Monday, January !4, 2013, passed away at the age of 87, in Potomac, MD. of natural causes.
She was born in Washington, DC, to John George Gillespie and Cleopatra Gerachis Gillespie in 1925.
A beautiful mother to John S. Nisos and Elizabeth M. Nisos, a loving grandmother to Caitlin, Isaiah, Josh and Elijah.
Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Josephine Kokenakes and brother, George (Mary) Gillespie. She was predeceased by her brother, Gus Gillespie, brother-in law, Peter Kokenakes and her parents. She had been married to John and Elizabeth's father, the late Lt. Col. Michael J. Nisos, for 33 years.
An accomplished travel agent for over 30 years, Elizabeth visited 106 countries around the world, making friends everywhere she went. She received her degrees of Psychology and Communication at American University. She was active in the Drama Department there, and had many lead roles in both singing and acting.
Loved by many family members and friends, Elizabeth will be deeply missed.
Viewing will be on Thursday January 24, 2013, 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm, with Trisagion Prayers scheduled at 7 pm at the Pumphrey Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD. 20814 (301-652-2200), and the Funeral service will be Friday January 25, 2013, 11:30 am at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Washington, DC (202-333-4730). Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland-Silver Hill, MD. Contributions may be made in Elizabeth's memory to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2815 36th Street NW Washington, 20007.
