Charles L. "Chuck" Lowery, Jr.
On Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, of Sterling, VA. Beloved husband of Mary T. Lowery; loving father of James A. Lowery, Thomas L. Lowery, Barbara E. Gaddy, John C. Lowery, Barbara J. Smith, Phyllis M. Ward, Charles T. Thurman, Patricia Lowery Kirksey and the late Robert L. Lowery; brother of Pearl "Sally" Roberts and Katherine Cowdery and the late Eugene and William Lowery; grandfather of 29; great grandfather of 26; great-great grandfather of one.
Mr. Lowery served with the U.S. Army in World War II as a Tech 4 with I Company, 424th Infantry Regiment of the 106th Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the Rhineland Campaign and also in Northern France. He was wounded in the Battle of Ardennes and awarded the Purple Heart. His other military decorations include the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon. Mr. Lowery became a steamfitter after his military service. He was a member of the Steamfitters UA Local #602 for over 40 years.
The family will receive friends at PUMPHREY'S COLONIAL FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville, MD on Friday, from 7-9 PM where a service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 at 10 AM. Interment Darnestown Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Evercare Hospice, 12018 Sunrise Valley Dr., #400, Reston, VA 20191-3434.
